Rengganis Suspension Bridge and Crater offers more than a scenic viewpoint in Ciwidey—you’ll cross a 370-meter bridge suspended 75 meters above the ground, with rainforest and volcanic scenery stretching below. The adventure continues at Rengganis Crater, where shallow sulfur pools and the unique Keranjang Sultan ride add another layer to the experience. Here’s what to know about the bridge, crater, tickets, and how to get there from Bandung.

Rengganis Suspension Bridge is located approximately two kilometers past Glamping Lakeside Rancabali, on the left side of the road. As soon as you turn left, find a place to park your car. People love to take pictures from this viewpoint, where you can see the rolling hills of the Rancabali tea plantation. Situ Patenggang looks small from up here, and Glamping Lakeside Rancabali looks like tiny white dots on its shore.

There are two types of tickets you can purchase here: the Rengganis and VIP packages. The Rengganis package costs Rp. 70,000 and gives you access to the crater and one crossing of Rengganis Suspension Bridge. If you choose this package, you first have to hike about 500 meters to the Rengganis crater. You can see the suspension bridge high above. After that, hike a bit farther to the beginning of the bridge, cross it, and end at Kinara Restaurant.

The VIP package costs Rp. 100,000 and includes access to the crater, two crossings of Rengganis Suspension Bridge, a short ride in Keranjang Sultan (a hanging chair that moves like a cable car) over the Rengganis crater, free welcome drink at Kinara Restaurant, and access to Glamping Lakeside Rancabali. This package is worth it, especially if you continue your trip to Situ Patenggang and Glamping Lakeside Rancabali. Even if you don’t take the complimentary Keranjang Sultan ride, you still have access to cross the suspension bridge twice!

It is worth it because the suspension bridge is the highlight of a visit to the Rengganis area. With a span of 370 meters, it became the longest suspension bridge in Southeast Asia. The bridge hangs 75 meters above the ground on the slope of Mount Patuha, which is around 1,700 meters above sea level. As a result, when you cross the bridge, you’ll see a beautiful rainforest landscape.

In terms of safety, the bridge structure was made of wire rope sling and covered with one-meter nets on each side, while the floor was made of Bornean ironwood planks. We were awed and thrilled at the beginning of the bridge, but the farther we walked, the stronger the wind became. The more people there were on the bridge, the more it swayed. The best view was in the middle of the bridge, but we could only stay there for a very short moment because of the wind and swaying.

Although Rengganis Suspension Bridge was initially built to help people reach the Rengganis crater, the bridge became more famous than the crater. Nowadays, Rengganis crater consists of several shallow pools. You are allowed to dip into the pool, but the water is only lukewarm. You are not allowed to dip into the other pools, where you can see bubbles like boiling water at the bottom. As usual, the smell of sulfur is quite strong around here.

Another exciting experience in Rengganis is the Keranjang Sultan ride. It is a series of egg-shaped hanging chairs that are pulled along like a gondola. It moves over the Rengganis crater.

The whole Rengganis Suspension Bridge and crater area is not wheelchair- or stroller-friendly. Even Kinara Restaurant is located on top of a hill overlooking the suspension bridge.

How to go to Rengganis Suspension Bridge from Bandung

Rengganis Suspension Bridge is located approximately 50 kilometers from downtown Bandung. There isn’t any direct public transportation to get there. Hence, the most comfortable and convenient way to get there is by renting a car with a driver. You can also hail ride-sharing services, such as Grab or GoCar, but make sure you arrange the return journey with the driver.

Half of the journey to Rengganis Suspension Bridge is via the Soroja toll road until you reach Soreang. After that, follow the road sign to Ciwidey. The scenery will slowly change from paddy fields to forest and then to tea plantations. The two-lane road winds up the mountain and is narrow. Hence, it takes about 1.5 hours to cover the distance.

At this moment, Rengganis Suspension Bridge and Crater is the last place of interest in Ciwidey, after Kawah Putih, Ranca Upas, Glamping Lakeside Rancabali, and Situ Patenggang. It is two kilometers past the entrance to Glamping Lakeside Rancabali, on the left side of the road. Turn left at the road sign, and continue uphill for another 600 meters to reach the ticket booth and parking area.

Planning Your Trip to Rengganis Suspension Bridge and Crater

Rengganis Suspension Bridge and crater are open daily from 7 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. Usually, the views in the morning are clearer without fog, and the temperature is cooler. We visited the bridge during the dry season, so we got bright pictures with a clear blue sky.

On average, people spend around two hours at Rengganis Suspension Bridge and crater. Only a few people soak in the pool since the hot spring here isn't warm enough.

If you buy the VIP package, you can continue your exploration at Glamping Lakeside Rancabali and have lunch at Pinisi Restaurant. The boat-shaped restaurant is set on the shore of Situ Patenggang, where you'll get many beautiful pictures. Your VIP ticket also includes several activities there, such as access to the Rabbit Garden, a ride on Golesat, Balcone Spider, and Tanjung Pinus.

Alternatively, if you have only one day in Ciwidey, you might want to come early to Rengganis Bridge, continue to Pinisi Restaurant for photo spots and lunch, then visit Kawah Putih before returning to Bandung.
