Cikole Lembang is always known for the great Mount Tangkuban Perahu, Jayagiri camping site and pine forest. As of August 2017, we can add another place to visit: Orchid Forest Cikole.
It is a lovely park in the middle of pine forest. The park is beautifully decorated with lots of various orchids as well as other flowers.
The location is approximately 7 kilometers north of Lembang, right before the entrance to Mount Tangkuban Perahu and across Jayagiri camping site. The coordinates are -6.7802777,107.6361084.
The ticket booth is approximately 1 kilometer from the main road, then we still need to drive another 3 kilometers uphill to reach the parking lot.
As soon as we enter the gate, we will see many orchids in the pots surrounding the lobby. The orchids also planted in the tree trunks.
Why orchid? Because orchids are beautiful flowers from tropical rain forest. As a tropical country that lies right on equator, Indonesia has plentiful varieties of orchids.
Most orchids are epiphytes, i.e. they grow anchored to trees in the forest. Although nowadays they are already cultivated in the nurseries and decorating many residences, hotels, and airports around the world. But this is the first time I see orchids decorating a pine forest :)
Walking through the park is fun and exhausting, since the park is located in the slope of a mountain, although the smooth pathway and benches all over the park help a lot.
We could take a break and hang out in the cafe though. It also has an open air stage. It seems they are constructing a food court at the far end of the park too.
Surely the first one is to enjoy the scenery and cool highland weather while taking beautiful pictures all over the park. Then, we can hang out and relaxing in the cafe.
Feel adventurous? Keep wandering to the far end of the park and you will find the sky bridge. The bridge is approximately 3 meters above ground, tied to the trunks of the pine trees. They are perfectly safe, since we can hold on to the 1.5 meters rope on each side of the bridge. We have to pay additional ticket of Rp. 15,000 to enter this bridge and only 5 persons allowed walking on this sky bridge at any time. It is a one way bridge, once we reach the other end, we can return using a flying fox. Alternatively, we can walk on the dirt, or relaxing on one of the hammocks hanging in the trees.
Are you an adrenaline junky? You may want to try the high rope obstacles there. It’s walking from tree to tree via several planks and ropes hanging high up on the trees.
Don’t feel left behind if you are a senior citizen. Since walking around the uneven park requires a lot of effort, the park provides a golf cart to take you from the lobby to the sky bridge area and vice versa. Although it may take some waiting time since I only see one golf cart, imagine the queue during peak hours.
